Started in 1973 by a small group of women in Toronto who wanted to produce books for Canadian children, Kids Can Press is the largest Canadian publisher of children’s books today, with over 500 books published for children of all ages, from toddlers to young adults. These attractive picture, fiction and curriculum-based non-fiction books are available worldwide in over 30 languages. Responsible for giving children books about characters such as Franklin the turtle, Kids Can Press, owned by Corus Entertainment Inc., a Canadian-based media and entertainment company, continues to publish award-winning titles that have quickly become the favourites of parents, teachers, librarians and children worldwide, which includes creating books that raise kids’ social consciousness. The CitizenKid series, which includes If the World Were a Village, Tree of Life, One Well, Ryan and Jimmy and One Hen, seek to help children understand global issues while at the same time showing that every one of us has the power to make a difference.
