OWC 2010 was an amazing step-up for us with a permanent location at Deer Creek Golf Club, a beautiful venue about 15 mins off the 401 in Ajax. We were so grateful to our honorary patron, Wayson Choy and all the speakers, facilitators, panelists and readers for their gracious participation. Onward and upward ~ word by word!

Writers' conference in Ajax next month
Workshops, author readings and evening festival featured

AJAX -- Writing and writers are celebrated in Ajax next month at the Ontario Writers' Conference 2011.
President Barbara Hunt says in the previous two conferences, attendees relished the opportunity to get concrete feedback from experts on improving their writing.
"They love taking workshops from great teachers and actually learning hands-on things," she says. "We don't have talking heads; we set that out from the very beginning. We wanted people to be able to take things away."
The April 30 conference features workshops and speakers and ends with The Festival of Authors in the evening. The pens and laptops are put away for the latter, as it's a time to network and enjoy some food in a cafe-style setting. The festival also offers author readings, a chance to mingle with Canadian authors, editors, agents and publishers, draws and a slew of vendors selling writing and related products. The 2011 Cornerstone Award recipient will be announced, an award that goes to someone who supports writers but is not in the writing field.
"Our vision is to educate, connect and inspire, that's our motto," Hunt says. "We're all volunteers. We're doing it for the passion we have for writers and the writing community."
