Do you know a talented young writer attending elementary or high school in Ontario? If so, don't let them miss out on this year's Write Across Ontario contest!

Presented by IFOA Ontario and Open Book: Ontario, the 5th annual Write Across Ontario contest is a creative writing competition for students in grades 5-12. Story starters are provided for each age category, and students are then free to let their imaginations take them in any direction.

This year's story starters are provided by an amazing line up of acclaimed authors:

  • Kate Cayley for grades 5–6
  • Farzana Doctor for grades 7–8
  • Matt Lennox for grades 9–10
  • James Grainger for grades 11–12
  • Stories should be between 250–500 words, not including the text of the story-starter. Each student writer is invited to send in one submission between September 2, 2015 and the final contest closing date of November 6, 2015.

One winner will be chosen from each age group. Each of the four winners will receive $500 in prize money and all four winning entries will appear online on Open Book.

We're deeply passionate about encouraging and supporting young and emerging writers and can't wait to read the terrific submissions from this year's writers.

Write Across Ontario was inspired by a contest created by the Melbourne Writers Festival, a Word Alliance partner festival of IFOA.

For more information and complete contest rules and requirements, please visit the Write Across Ontario website.

Good luck to all the young writers who enter!
