Wilfrid Laurier University’s Faculty of Arts is calling for applicants for the Edna Staebler Laurier Writer-in-Residence position. The Writer-in-Residence will receive $25,000 for a three-month residency taking place from January 13 to April 11, 2014 on Wilfrid Laurier’s Waterloo campus. The current Writer-in-Residence is Andrew Westoll, author of The Riverbones and The Chimps of Fauna Sanctuary.
This residency is open to all established Canadian writers of fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction and drama. The applicants must be working on a new writing project with the intention that it will be a book-length publication. They must also be active participants in the writing community.
The Writer-in-Residence opportunity is a full-time position in which the author is expected to devote 40 hours per week. The author will be required to spend 40 percent of the residency on community programs such as reading manuscripts and consulting with students and the public, visiting classrooms, leading workshops, and giving readings and lectures. This will leave 60 percent of their time to devote to writing. They will live at Lucinda House, a century home close to the Waterloo campus.
