A partnership between The Arts and Letters Club Foundation and the Alice Munro Short Story Festival has created a new prize for emerging writers in the Greater Toronto Area. The Foundation, an organization established in 2014 to support youth in the arts, is sponsoring a $500 award for writers aged 20–30 from Toronto and the surrounding municipalities of Durham, Halton, Peel and York.

The Alice Munro Short Story Festival, taking place from June 2–5, 2016 in Wingham, is an annual three-day festival featuring workshops, readings, onstage presentations and community events that celebrate emerging writers and short fiction. The Short Story competition is now in its 12th year, and 2016 marks the first time the annual competition will feature a special category for young and emerging writers.

Eligible writers are asked to submit a short story of up to 2,500 words by April 1, 2016. For more information and submission guidelines, please visit the Alice Munro Short Story Festival website.
