Canada Writes, CBC’s online home for Canadian writing, has launched a new writing competition called Hyperlocal. Hyperlocal is an interactive story map where Canadians can upload stories about the changes they see occurring in their neighbourhoods, such as large issues about the economy or small changes like a coffee chain moving in.They want to know about the changes happening in your community and what they mean to you.
There are three ways to submit a story. You may send a text entry between 400-500 words (photo optional), a photo essay and caption (3 photos + a 50-100 word caption) or a video/audio version (with a 50-100 word accompanying text). If sending a video or audio version of your story, the maximum length is 2 minutes. There is no cost to enter. All stories that are submitted will be available to read online.
Canadians have until May 3, 2013 to submit their best stories about their communities. At the end of the month the jury will select the winning story from the public, which will be turned into a web-based interactive by the National Film Board of Canada’s Digital Studio. The winner will also receive a laptop computer.
