The CNIB Library is now accepting submissions for their Braille Creative Writing Contest. The contest is open to primary and secondary Canadian students who are blind or partially sighted. There are four group levels: Grades K-2; Grades 3-5; Grades 6-8 and Grades 9-12 and the contest is divided into two categories, one for story/essay and one for poetry.
Braille accuracy and creativity will be given equal weight in the judging and computer braille will be accepted, provided braille translation software is not used. Monetary prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners in each category. The contest deadline is May 31, with an early-bird deadline of April 30.
This year's judge is Susan Hughes, celebrated Canadian children's author of more than 25 books for children and young adults of all ages. Susan is also a regular columnist for Open Book.
