Burt Award for First Nations, Metis and Inuit Literature

The deadline for submitting to The Burt Award for First Nations, Métis and Inuit Literature is fast approaching. Publishers must submit eligible books no later than May 1st, 2013.

The Burt Award for First Nations, Métis and Inuit Literature was established by CODE, a Canadian organization that supports and celebrates literacy and learning. In collaboration with philanthropist William Burt and the Literary Prizes Foundation, this award is given annually to English-language books for young adults that are written by First Nations, Métis or Inuit authors.

In order for books to be eligible for the award, they must have been published between May 1, 2010 and April 30, 2013, but unpublished manuscripts are also eligible.Canadian publishers may submit English-language fiction and non-fiction.

The winner of first prize will receive $12,000. A prize of $8,000 will go to the second prize winner while $5,000 will be awarded to the third prize winner. In addition, the winning titles will be awarded a minimum purchase of 2,500 copies of their book. Winning titles will be announced in September 2013.
