Project Bookmark Canada is pleased to announce that the first Bookmark in Vancouver (and the first west of Ontario) will be Wayson Choy's The Jade Peony, which will be placed at the intersection of Pender & Gore in Chinatown. The Bookmark is made possible with the generous support of The Metcalf Foundation and in partnership with the Vancouver Writers Fest and the City of Vancouver.

“I’m so very proud that this honour recognizes the pioneer Chinatown citizens of two world wars who raised children like myself to defend and embrace the country that at first rejected them,” says Choy. “Their stories at last belong to all Canadians.”

Members of the public are invited to attend the unveiling and to hear the author read from his novel on Tuesday, October 15 at 11 a.m., on the southeast corner of the intersection of Pender and Gore.

Project Bookmark Canada is a national charity that places text from stories and poems in the exact physical locations where literary scenes are set. The initiative has installed 10 Bookmarks around Ontario, and recently unveiled another in Newfoundland.
