Trillium Book Award Author Readings June 16

Get Lit! Literature and Conversation for a Good Cause

Share |

At the sixth annual Get Lit event, a unique line-up of acclaimed authors will share and discuss a piece of writing that has inspired them towards their own success.

The event was founded by Romina Tina Fontana, who took inspiration from Al Purdy's famously comic, intense reading performances. This year's readers will be Damian Abraham, Robyn Doolittle, Perdita Felicien, Jeremy Laing, CBC's Amanda Lang and Frank Viva.

The event will include a silent auction and refreshments created by Chef Jo Lusted, in addition to the panel discussion. And most importantly, all funds raised go to The Running & Reading Club, an after-school program that effectively addresses the benefits of literacy and physical activity for children living in poverty. The program currently services over 1,600 underprivileged children across Canada. The cause inspired Romina after she met Olympian Silvia Ruegger, founder of The Running & Reading Club, who shared stories of the club's positive impact.

Past event readers have included George Stroumboulopoulos, Vincent Lam and Claudia Dey, as well as many other notable Canadian writers and personalities.

Ticket to Get Lit are available online.
