Governor General's Literary Awards Announce Winners, Including Fiction Winner Guy Vanderhaeghe

The venerable Governor General's Literary Awards announced their 2015 winners today, with Saskatoon author and CanLit star Guy Vanderhaeghe scooping up the fiction prize for his acclaimed Daddy Lenin and Other Stories (McClelland & Stewart). Vanderhaeghe has won two previous GGs, including one for his first novel, Man Descending, published in 1982. Amongst his many honours, he has also received the Lieutenant Governor’s Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts, Saskatchewan's highest honour in the arts.

The list of winners' continued the 2015 prize season trend of small and independent publishers doing well, with House of Anansi/Groundwood Books, Biblioasis, Coach House Books, Playwrights Canada Press and Red Deer Press/Fitzhenry & Whiteside all represented. The list is rounded out by academic publisher Harvard University Press and McClelland & Stewart, the iconic Canadian imprint owned by Penguin Random House.
