From our friends at IFOA

IFOA (The International Festival of Authors) is delighted to announce a new partnership with Humber’s School of Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS), which will see the two organizations collaborating on several public events that will bridge IFOA programming and academia.

“Working together opens new windows of opportunity, both for us and Humber LAS,” said IFOA Director Geoffrey E. Taylor. “Expanding our programming to include this academic component is something that we’ve hoped to be able to do for some time.”

During the 35th annual International Festival of Authors this fall, the new partners will host an academic conference, entitled Representing World War I: Perspectives at the Centenary, which will bring over 100 international scholars to the Harbourfront Centre site to discuss the effects of World War I. The War, although primarily a European conflict, had a global impact that continues to resonate into the 21st century, affecting politics, economics, sciences and the arts.

“The conference will build an important academic element into the interdisciplinary nature of the IFOA,” said Jason Galea, Associate Dean of Liberal Studies at Humber. “It will provide the Festival and conference attendees with access to a broader range of perspectives on this very important topic.”

The three-day conference, which runs October 31 to November 2, 2014, will facilitate further discussion between scholars, researchers and public intellectuals across a range of academic disciplines.
