Editorial Assistant:

The Open Book Foundation is seeking a part-time (approximately 15 hours per week) Assistant Editor for the websites Open Book Toronto and Open Book Ontario.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

50% - EVENT LISTING & SOCIAL MEDIA RESPONSIBILITIES
-Fielding submissions to our event listings and uploading event details accurately and in a timely manner, updating any changes as needed, and communicating with submitters when necessary
-Tweeting daily about each event
-Proactively sourcing information about literary events in order to ensure the event listing remains robust

30% - EDITORIAL RESPONSIBLITIES
-Working as the main editorial contact for select editorial projects; creating interview questions and writing content for these projects
-Brainstorming and spearheading possible new and future projects
-Working with publishers to obtain author interviews and other content as needed for select editorial projects
-Writing articles about book industry news including: calls for submissions, awards news, partnerships, event information, etc.
-Copy-editing and posting Open Book monthly columnists' submissions in a timely manner, promoting the postings on social media, and acting as the main point of contact for the columnists

10% - SENIOR EDITOR SUPPORT RESPONSIBILITIES
-Supporting the Senior Editor in creating and posting content on the site on an as needed basis
-When the Senior Editor is on vacation, the Assistant Editor may need to take on some of the Senior Editor’s duties temporarily

10% - GENERAL & IN-HOUSE RESPONSIBILITIES
-Assisting as needed during the upcoming website re-design process as part of the Open Book team
-Being available for bi weekly team meetings via (audio) Skype
-Positively representing Open Book at literary events
-Proactively pitching ideas in generally within the small, collaborative Open Book team, whether in terms of editorial content, social media, brainstorming, or otherwise

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

-Knowledge of, and experience working in, the Canadian book publishing industry
-Experience updating a website; knowledge of HTML a plus
-Experience representing a brand on various social media platforms
-Strong writing and editorial skills: writing samples may be requested
-Strong time management skills required; able to work independently with little to no supervision
