Project Bookmark Canada is a national, charitable volunteer-run organization that places plaques with text from stories and poems in the places where these literary works are set. So far, they have 12 Bookmarks located across Canada, with the goal of having a lot more, so that Canadians and visitors can “read their way across Canada.” With little funding for organizational and administrative support, they hope the organization can reach its full potential with the Page Turner campaign, with which they want to raise more funding to run their office and maintain the Bookmarks.
The Page Turner campaign enables Project Bookmark to build their budget by sourcing small donations of $20 from multiple supporters, while at the same time encouraging Canadians to become engaged with Project Bookmark’s campaign. Also, sourcing multiple donors makes Project Bookmark more appealing to funding bodies who want to know how many people are in support of the project. Many Canadian authors including Guy Gavriel Kay, Andrew Pyper, Margaret Atwood and Tanis Rideout are in support, each with a designated day in April where they champion the cause and encourage book lovers to make $20 donations in an effort to “turn the page” to a new chapter in Project Bookmark’s development.
