After four days of exciting literary debate Ru (Random House Canada), written by Kim Thuy and defended by TIFF artistic director Cameron Bailey, was chosen as the "book to break barriers" for the 2015 CBC Canada Reads.
This year's competition was hosted for the first time by Wab Kinew, who won last year's Canada Reads championing The Orenda by Joseph Boyden. This year's installment of Canada Reads also differed from years past by featuring a mix of fiction and non-fiction books, as well as the first Young Adult book to be a contender in the competition. The books from this year's battle of the books were selected by the five champions for their ability to challenge stereotypes and bring important issues to the forefront.
