The Canada Council for the Arts has revealed this year's shortlist for the Governor General's Literary Awards, celebrating Canadian works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama, children's literature (with categories for text and illustration) and translation, in both English and French.
There is a good showing of small presses in the running. Pedlar Press is the only indie publisher in the fiction category, and Biblioasis continues their 2015 award streak by landing on the poetry shortlist. Playwrights Canada Press has three titles in the drama category and House of Anansi has two titles up for the translation prize, as well as a nomination for their children's imprint, Groundwood Books. Coach House Books also has a title in the translation category.
The winners will be announced on October 28, 2015. A public reading and book signing with the winners will take place at the Canada Council in Ottawa on December 1, 2015.
