Ann Birch will deliver a history lesson taught through the lens of her historical novel Settlement. She will talk about the scandal and political intrigue in Toronto and Upper Canada in the years 1836 and 1837 and discuss the research necessary to bring to life Sam Jarvis and Anna Jameson, the two main historical figures in the novel. She will also focus on Anna Jameson's brief stay in Oakville in the winter of 1837, as described in Anna's own memoir Winter Studies and Summer Rambles. At the end of her presentation, she will offer a fun quiz on Upper Canada in 1837 with a complimentary copy of Settlement for the winner. This event is free and open to the public.
