On June 23 celebrated culinary artist, author and historian Dorothy Duncan will be at WHAM presenting a day long cooking workshop. The Art of Cookery: 1812-1814 will feature an informative talk about the availability of wild foods, vegetables from settler gardens, fields and orchards of the area along with historical highlights, superstitions and limitations surrounding these foods. There will be demonstrations of period cooking along with samples of bannock, oatcakes, bread (made with beer and homemade yeast), cheddar cheese, dried and smoked meat and fish, just to name a few. Besides actual cooking demonstrations, there will be an opportunity for hands on sessions where participants will make apple fool, summer pudding and sugarplums with time for discussions and samples to take home.
