‘Tis the season, and the Writers’ Community of Durham Region (WCDR) is excited to announce our annual holiday RoundTable, featuring renowned author and cartoonist Tony Jenkins as our guest speaker. We have raffle prizes from our artists (Lief Petersen and Harrison Wheeler), Blue Heron Books, Purdy’s Chocolates, Chef Deb Rankine, and Thelma James; special gifts from The Rights Factory; a present from the WCDR for all attendees; and a buffet breakfast from the ACC. You won’t want to miss this RoundTable!

Tony Jenkins, author and cartoonist, will discuss the importance of selective word choice, the impact words have on a reader’s impression of visuals, and journalistic publishing at the next WCDR RoundTable on December 14, 2013.

*Pre-registration is required for the RoundTable—deadline for registering is 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013.*

Anthony Mars Jenkins was born in Toronto, and delivered the Globe and Mail from a wagon as a kid. He graduated from the University of Waterloo with an arts BA, and got a masters “backpacking around” 83 countries to date. He joined the Globe after graduating in 1974 and has only recently retired. Jenkins has two grown and well-travelled daughters. He lives in Mono—just outside Orangeville—Ontario, where he paints for fun and profit, though mostly for the former. Jenkins will be selling and signing his book of minimalist, elegant line caricatures, A Fine Line (Nestlings Press), after the RoundTable meeting.

At the monthly WCDR RoundTable, experienced and aspiring writers gather, learn, and connect over a gourmet breakfast at the Ajax Convention Centre on Beck Crescent, south of Highway 2, off Chambers Drive, near Salem Road. The December 14 meeting will run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Registration fees are $25.00 for members who pre-pay, or $30.00 at the door. The non-member rate is $35.00 and MUST be pre-paid.

Pre-registration is required. Ask how you can save by becoming a member! Register online at www.wcdr.org, by phone at 905-686-0211 or by email at breakfast@wcdr.org, no later than 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11. The ACC is once again offering our members a buffet breakfast in honour of the season. A plated meal is available for members who are unable to navigate a buffet line because of a disability; please indicate if a plate is preferred in the comments section of the registration page, or in your email or phone message.

The Writers’ Community of Durham Region (WCDR) is dedicated to raising the profile of writers of all kinds, and at all levels, by offering a forum through which they can find support, education, and networking opportunities. As a non-profit organization, WCDR has worked since 1995 to draw together individuals and groups with common interests in promoting the art and skill of writing, fostering literacy, and providing moral support to members.
