Sally Raspin, author and illustrator of Grandma's Turkeys (The Brucedale Press) is back with a new picture storybook for young children. When The Big Wind takes Grandma flying out of her tree-house studio and over Orchard Knoll, she needs her grandchildren to rescue her.
To be launched on July 20, at Crossroads Coffee House on Highway 6 at Ferndale, The Big Wind captures the excitement of Jack and Abbi in colourful art. Everyone is welcome to celebrate the launch, meet the author, and view some of the original paintings from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m.
Sally Raspin says, “This story began with my hasty exit from our tree house when a storm hit.” She recalls her husband Jim always warned her big overalls were a hazard. With imaginative thinking, Sally drew Grandma's adventure for reading aloud to children. A familiar vendor at Lion's Head Farmers' Market, Sally sells produce from the gardens at Orchard Knoll, Cape Chin, which appear in her books.
“Sally's gentle art brings the story to life,” says publisher Anne Duke Judd of The Brucedale Press. “We think kids will have fun looking for the details and looking again, guided by a page called Did You Find?”
Available at area bookstores and museum gift shops for $10.00, The Big Wind can also be ordered from brucedale@bmts.com or by calling 1-866-832-6025. The Brucedale Press will sell copies of both Sally Raspin's books at upcoming events, including Port Elgin's downtown Wednesday market on Mill Street this summer. Meet Sally each Saturday at Lion's Head Farmer's Market at the beach.
