Brucedale Press Presents Launch of Skyhill Stories: A Memoir with Art by Lillian Burgess

Skyhill Stories a memoir with art by Lillian Burgess, will launch Sunday afternoon, December 6 at Jest Arts in Durham, Ontario. Artist, author and farmer Lillian Burgess has pieced together a book of observations and experiences spanning three decades on her family's farm in Grey County.

The book features nearly 50 of her works depicting plants, animals and people of Skyhill Farm. While most are watercolours, monoprints and solar etchings are among the selected illustrations. Some of the works will be displayed at Sunday's event.

Text in the book flows seasonally, with diary entries and poetry among the essays. Lillian Burgess has previously contributed reflections on rural living to publications including Mosaic and Wood Words: a celebration of forests. A list of species and a resource list complete the new book.

For The Brucedale Press, Skyhill Stories marks a milestone, as the first full-colour art book since the regionally-focused publisher started in 1994.

At the launch, Lillian Burgess will read selections from the book and autograph copies. The Brucedale Press will donate a portion of the day's proceeds to support the South Grey Bruce Youth Literacy Council.

Admission is free, with the event running 2 – 4 pm at Jest Arts, a newly opened facility in downtown Durham. Owners Jenny Parsons and Steve Morel offer space for drama workshops, art exhibitions and other cultural events.
