The Canadian Authors Association (CAA), National Capital Region Branch (NCR), holds regular monthly meetings October through June (except December) with no meetings in the summer months (July through September).

Each meeting has a different theme, usually with a well-known guest speaker from the industry or from a specialty field relevant to writers.

All are welcome. Cost is free to members; non-members, $10; students up to age 17 are $5.

This evening, they welcome Laura Byrne Paquet.

Do you love to travel? Do you love to write? Have you ever thought about combining the two? This presentation by travel writer Laura Byrne Paquet will cover the basics of getting started in the travel writing business, and provide a candid look at the available markets (including both print and electronic) and current rates of pay. Laura will also provide tips on topics such as useful equipment for travel writers, travel writing traps to avoid and the benefits of social networking.

ABOUT:

Laura Byrne Paquet's first encounter with the written word was not an auspicious one: her birth announcement appeared in her hometown newspaper's classifieds under the heading "Livestock for Sale." Despite that, she decided to become a journalist. Her travel articles, profiles, small business articles and service pieces have appeared in more than 80 publications in Canada, the United States and Europe, and she has written 11 books.
