Five Local Writers Book Launch

Five members of the local Writers’ BLOC are celebrating the group’s twentieth year by launching a collection of stories on Sunday, November 21, at the Port Elgin Library- community room from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. authors Dianne J. Ferris, Anne Duke Judd, M. Jean Lagace, Shirley M. Rothwell, and Isabel W. Sturgeon will sign copies of Fibs & Memories.

THE AUTHORS:

Dianne J. Ferris now lives in Southampton. The newest member to contribute to the story collection, she was co-owner of Loch Arran Resort and later lived in the Niagara area. Also a songwriter and poet, her novel, The Purple Doll for YA is in print from General Store Publishing House.

Anne Duke Judd writes, edits, and gardens in Saugeen Shores. She has been a reporter for the local paper, a contributor to regional magazines, and one of the Grey-Bruce Poets of the Month. Her short fiction has appeared in The Sun Times, and the Shoreline Beacon.

M. Jean Lagace creates visual art as well as writing. She lives in Tiverton, where she operates a gallery and framing service for artists. She began writing a few years ago, taking part in the monthly challenges of Writers’ BLOC, and the group’s readings at venues around the area.

Shirley M. Rothwell grew up in Saugeen Township and returned to Port Elgin in her retirement. She has used family history research as background for stories enjoyed by her friends and family. Known for creating tales with a humorous touch, Shirley is a past winner of the Shoreline Beacon’s Christmas story contest.

Isabel W. Sturgeon has lived in Port Elgin for many years. An artist, illustrator, and poet, she has seen her work published in many collections from The Ontario Poetry Society and Haiku Canada. Her fishing stories have won prizes in both The Sun Times and Shoreline Beacon contests.

Everyone is welcome to attend the launch, where copies of Fibs & Memories will be available at $8.00 each. Books are also available from each of the contributors.
