On Sunday, September 11, 2011, break bread with 200+ Durham residents and their friends and family at the Region’s first-ever Community Sunday Supper at Pingle’s Farm Market in Hampton.

The dinner bell rings at 5 pm. Pull up a chair, tuck in a napkin and enjoy a three-course, locally sourced, pass-the-potatoes-please Sunday supper with all the fixings for just $15. While you feed your family, you’ll be feeding the hungry in Durham: net proceeds go to Feed the Need in Durham food bank.

Durham’s Deb Rankine (a.k.a. The Fridge Whisperer) came up with the idea. The national food writer and cookbook author was looking for a way to celebrate the launch of The Fridge Whisperer: Lusciously Local, the latest title in her cookbook series. She decided to celebrate with family—extended family. And because the new cookbook was inspired by locally sourced foods and farm fresh ingredients, the open-air supper showcases Durham’s home-grown harvest served in Pingle’s apple orchard.
