Social media: the online cocktail party where writers, agents, publishers and readers mingle, connect, share advice and resources, do business. Are you ready to join the party?

Pack up your laptop and find out at Get the Word Out: Social media for writers. This five-week hands-on workshop series walks you through the basics of Facebook, Twitter and Google+ for writers. We’ll develop your profiles on these three major platforms and touch on the benefits of blogging, LinkedIn, YouTube and Flickr. Once you’re in the door, learn how to meet, who to greet and how to make a killer impression in the writers’ world of social media.

• Who are the literary world’s movers and shakers in social media?
• How do I tap into the best writers’ resources?
• How do I build followers and friends?
• When—and why—create an author page, book page or book trailer?
• RTs, +1s, shares, hashtags—what does it all mean?

Most exercises will be done online. While participants will get step-by-step instructions and plenty of handouts, bringing a laptop computer that can be connected to the Internet is highly recommended.

Registration is $125, with a discounted rate of $110 for members of recognized writing organizations (WCDR, WCYR, WCSC, SOH, PWAC, etc. and Trent U students/staff.) Preregistration is required.
