Are you a writer, storyteller, musician or visual artist? Whether you get paid or not, Revenue Canada offers aspiring and professional members of the arts community unique tax considerations not available to other occupations. Knowledge is the key, says Gwynn Scheltema, an award-winning writer and professional accountant.

On Saturday, September 15, Scheltema presents It's Not What You Earn, It's What You Keep, a fun one-day workshop full of tax tips aimed at the arts community.

"Now is the time, not next year at tax time, to find out what you need to do to maximise your savings and reduce the amount of taxes you pay," says Scheltema. "A little time and money invested now will help you hold onto your hard-earned dollars instead of surrendering them to the taxman."

Scheltema is a professional writer and editor. Before starting her writing business The Write Connection in 2001, Gwynn worked for over 25 years in accounting, teaching and administration. Her background as a professional accountant and tax preparer gives her the expertise to lead writers and other creative artists through the maze of taxation opportunities.

The workshop runs from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. at the Newmarket Public Library, located at 438 Park Ave. in Newmarket. The price for the course is $90. Members of approved writers' associations are entitled to a $10 discount.
