Giller winner Joseph Boyden explores Canada’s pre-settlement past in his new novel The Orenda, which opens in the 1630s with the kidnapping of a gifted Iroquois child and the arrival of a charming Jesuit. This is a story of first encounters: the struggle between the Iroquois and Huron Nation, and the impact of missionaries who bring more than faith to the New World. Joseph talks about writing, history, and his native roots with Shelagh Rogers of CBC’s The Next Chapter.
