Local luminaries vie for votes for this year’s Ontario Library Association’s prestigious Evergreen Award book nominees. Author Melanie Dugan champions Mennonites Don’t Dance. Playwright Maurice Breslow defends The Far Side of the Sky. Author Shelley Tanaka makes the case for Requiem. Librarian Martha Whitehead argues for Shelter. Reelout Director Matt Salton takes on Natural Order. Therese Greenwood represents TThe Accident; Violette Malan makes a pitch for Bedtime Story; Gillian Sadinsky raises the flag for Under an Afghan Sky, Brigadier General, Ret. Bill Richard battles for They Fight Like Soldiers, They Die Like Children; and dance instructor Melissa Mahady sides with Various Positions. Join the ringside fun in this no-word-play-barred, spine-tingling battle in which defenders joust to win over the audience to their chosen book. Audience members get first crack at casting their ballots; the contest continues throughout the month at all KFPL branches, local bookstores and online at www.kfpl.ca. Sponsored by the Kingston Frontenac Public Library and moderated once again by the unflappable Eric Friesen.
