Canada’s most eminent composer, R. Murray Schafer, has not only composed dozens of works for orchestra, choir, and theatre, he has also expanded our musical vocabulary with words such as soundscape and schizophonia. Forty years ago, his book The Tuning of the World created a new intellectual discipline – acoustic ecology – that changed forever the way we perceive sound. Murray reflects on his lifelong creative journey in his memoir, My Life on Earth and Elsewhere. In conversation with music broadcaster, Eric Friesen.
