From Query to Byline: Get Published and Paid is a five-evening introduction to the basics of writing non-fiction for magazines, newspapers and the web. Facilitators Heather M. O’Connor and Gwynn Scheltema share the tricks of the trade that earn them a successful living as freelance writers.

This hands-on workshop series is jam-packed with exercises and activities. Participants learn how to identify good story ideas, find the right publications and craft query letters. They’ll also learn how to follow up with a winning article. Participants get plenty of opportunities to practise their new skills, and receive written and oral feedback on their work from two dynamic facilitators.

The course runs Thursdays, from 6:00 to 8:30 pm, February 1 to 29, 2012 (no class on February 20) at Trent University—Oshawa Campus, 55 Thornton Rd S., Oshawa. Registration is $125, with a discounted rate of $110 for members of recognized writing organizations (WCDR, SOH, PWAC, etc.) and Trent U students/staff. Preregistration is required.
