Award-winning author Gloria Ferris returns to Port Elgin Branch Library on Sunday afternoon, April 13, with her new novel, Corpse Flower. Hosted by Friends of the library in the Library Live! Series, she'll be reading from and signing copies from 1:30 to 3:30 in the library's Community Room.

Corpse Flower received the Crime Writers of Canada 2010 Unhung Arthur Award for a yet-unpublished manuscript. It was picked up by Dundurn Press of Toronto, and released in 2013. There are hints that Port Elgin inspired the book's fictional town of Lock Port. And, yes, “corpse flower” is a real plant, though not necessarily one you'd want in your home.

Gloria Ferris' first published novel, Cheat the Hangman was set in the fictional town of Blackshore, with echoes of Kincardine. Both Port Elgin and Kincardine are previous home communities to the author, who now lives in Guelph. Cheat the Hangman won the first Bony Blithe Mystery Award in 2012.

Friends of the library welcome everyone to the event, accepting donations and offering memberships to anyone who wishes to support our library. The Library Live! series connects materials in our library with interests of the community, sure to be a treat for the many mystery fans in Saugeen Shores and beyond. The Waterloo Region Record calls Corpse Flower “an outstanding mystery tale with a funny, feisty heroine who will have you laughing out loud.”
