Don't miss Markham’s first open mic night- a free event, sponsored by Markham Village Writers & Markham Arts Council Markham.

Local Author Elizabeth Tyrrell will read from her debut novel. The Strangling Angel is the story of a young girl’s harrowing journey across a famine-ravaged Ireland, after witnessing her mother’s brutal murder at the hands of her father.

Following, the mic is open to the audience, so come up and share your own story or poem. Sign up between 6:45 and 7:00 to reserve your spot in the lineup. (18 years and older, please.)

Musical guest Matt Panetta, a talented songwriter and guitarist, will perform his original music.

The winners of the 2011 MAC Poetry Contest will read their winning entries.

I'm so proud of you Elizabeth, I know you have worked long and hard producing this book and I'm quite certain it will be a huge success I send my congratulations to you. I have not been able to open the reading...Not very good with computers...but I shall keep on trying. Meanwhile I shall place an order today with Amazon. I love a good read and I just know that you can produce one. All my very best wishes to you.
Love from Vera and your friends at the Dock.
