This Thanksgiving weekend will mark the inaugural North Words Muskoka Literary Festival in Huntsville, Muskoka. Huntsville is already home to a vibrant arts community and a destination for theatre enthusiasts. A celebration of literature is a natural addition to the mix.
The two-day event will feature authors who have written about or been inspired by their love of cottage country. The list of participating authors includes Joseph Boyden who won the Giller Prize in 2008 for his novel, Through Black Spruce.
Several authors will be sharing inspiring stories onstage at the Algonquin Theatre, with Roy MacGregor serving as master of ceremonies for the event. Well known in Huntsville for his novel Canoe Lake, a fictional interpretation of Tom Thomson’s death, MacGregor will also be launching his much-anticipated new book during the festival.
The weekend will include a breakfast hosted by Joseph Boyden at The Mill on Main restaurant. Boyden will give a reading, answer questions and sign books. There is limited seating available for this event.
A selection of authors will be reading from their works, answering questions and signing books at Trinity United Church on Saturday. It will be an excellent opportunity for readers to meet some well-known authors in person.
The authors participating in the event include: Joseph Boyden, Roy MacGregor, Tish Cohen, Giles Blunt, John Ibbitson, Jeffrey Moore, Peter Robinson, Jack Whyte, Shane Peacock, Alan Pearson and Alayna Munce.
