Details
On Tuesday, June 16, St. Catharines's Strega Cafe will host a special Coach House showcase, featuring authors from the historic and acclaimed Toronto-based Coach House Books. The press, who began publishing the likes of Michael Ondaatje in its early days, now is the publisher of authors like Christian Bök, Guy Maddin, Cordelia Strube and Nicole Brossard.
Coach House and the Niagara Literary Arts Festival will be presenting some of their finest recent authors:
Gary Barwin - the Hamilton-based poet and outstanding performer will read from The Porcupinity of the Stars, an alchemical collision of language, imaginative flight and quiet beauty, filtered through Barwin's always-surrealist sensibilities.
Jeramy Dodds - shortlisted for the Griffin Poetry Prize for his debut collection, Crabwise to the Hounds (which won the Trillium Poetry Prize), Dodds will bring his remarkable poems about jackalopes, Glenn Gould and werewolves to St. Catharines.
Dorothy Ellen Palmer - Palmer's debut novel, When Fenelon Falls, is a funny and touching coming-of-age tale set in Ontario's cottage country in 1969. Protagonist Jordan May March spends her days memorizing CHUM charts, being tormented by cousins and worrying about the caged bear up the road, but the summer of 1969 has even bigger events in store.
