Were your ancestors criminals? Were they victims of crime? Did they sit on a jury or run the local jail? Using a "crime timeline", this lecture by Crime and Punishment in Upper Canada (Dundurn) author, Janice Nickerson, will walk you through the process of criminal justice administration in 19th Century Ontario, from the discovery of the crime, through the investigation and adjudication to the final punishment. In the process, a variety of justice related records, including newspapers, government correspondence, coroner's inquest files, prosecution recods, court minute and docket books, judges' benchbooks, jail and prison records will be examined.

$5.00 admission.
