The Ontario Writers' Conference kicks off this year's event on May 4, 2012, at the Deer Creek Golf & Banquet Facility with the Festival of Authors.

OWC participants take part in engaging, interactive workshops, panels, roundtables, mentoring and pitch sessions. These events are led by writers and industry professionals. It's a weekend dedicated to the art of writing and strengthening the writer community.

Workshop topics range from digging up facts with Susanna Kearsley to crafting dialogue and voice with Annette McLeod. Andrew Borkowski will guide you through the techniques of writing successful fiction through multiple drafts as Gwynn Scheltema shares the secret of keeping readers engaged until the last page. Other workshops are run by Hilary McMahon, Isobel Warren, Ian Hamilton and Adrienne Kress.

There's also a plenary session with Cynthia Good and Mark Lefebvre that explores writing in the digital age.

The conference also includes lectures by Robert J. Sawyer, Susan Lynn Reynolds and Adrienne Kerr.

And guests speakers include Douglas Gibson and Paula Todd.

If you register before March 31, 2012, the conference is $180 for members and $195 for non-members. Blue Pencil Add-On is $15 and Friday night's Festival of Authors is $20. You can register online or by mail.
