Don't miss poetry readings with Steve McOrmond and Jessica Hiemstra-van der Horst.

ABOUT:

Steve McOrmond’s most recent book of poetry is The Good News about Armageddon (Brick Books, 2010). His previous collection, Primer on the Hereafter (Wolsak and Wynn, 2006), was awarded the 2007 Atlantic Poetry Prize, and his first poetry collection, Lean Days (Wolsak and Wynn, 2004), was shortlisted for the Gerald Lampert Award. Of his poetry Stuart Ross writes, “McOrmond writes with precision and rich, rich language, about gizmos and lobsters and—with compassion—about the tininess of our lives in this big universe.” Originally from Prince Edward Island, Steve now lives in Toronto.

Jessica Hiemstra-van der Horst is a visual artist and writer. Her 2011 collection of poems, Apologetic for Joy (Goose Lane), is a lush collection from a unique voice whose palette of subject matter ranges from artistic anatomy, cooking, music, travel, dislocation, translation, and schizophrenia—all rooted in observations of daily life experiences. Jessica’s previous books include Anatomy for the Artist (Greenboathouse Press, 2009) and Excerpts from Gerald, God and the Chickens (Frog Hollow Press, 2008). She currently lives in Melbourne, Australia with her partner, her paints, her computer, and her small garden.
