Polish your prose with award-winning writers. This August, tune up your writing with a pair of innovative and hands-on writing workshops led by all-star writing coaches Gwynn Scheltema and Ruth E. Walker. Sign up for one or both of the full-day Writescape workshops held in Cedar Valley.

On August 7 (10am-4pm), it’s Tasting the Page: Beyond the Five Senses with Gwynn Scheltema, where writers will experiment with creative writing exercises that make their writing live. They’ll learn new techniques to give greater weight to their narrative voice and deepen their powers of description.

On August 28, Ruth Walker presents Character Development: Putting Flesh on the Bones. This one-day workshop focuses on ways to develop characters into memorable people. Innovative exercises and intriguing examples help writers create believable dialogue and fascinating fictional folks.

Workshops run from 10:00 to 4:00. Registration includes all handouts, workshop materials and all-day beverage station. Both workshops will be held at a location in Cedar Valley within easy distance of Newmarket, Uxbridge and Stouffville. Each workshop is $90; $80 for members of accredited writing organizations. Preregistration is required. For full details and online registration, visit www.writescape.ca, e-mail info@writescape.ca, or phone 905-728-7823.
