There’s always something interesting cooking at the Writers' Community of Durham Region’s monthly breakfasts. Enjoy an industry speaker, great networking opportunities, and a fabulous breakfast spread! Everyone welcome.

Today's guest speaker is award-winning author Charles Foran.

His most recent book, Mordecai: The Life and Times (Knopf Canada) has caused quite a stir in the literary world. Charles Foran recently won the $25,000 Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction for his “big, honking Canadian literary biography” of Mordecai Richler. Foran’s book of essays, Join the Revolution, Comrades, has been the focus of The Writers’ Community of Durham Region’s (WCDR) book club for the last two months.

After the breakfast meeting, for an extra fee of $10 per person, breakfast attendees can take part in a mini-workshop entitled “The Amazing Seven Things Learned from Tabloids!” According to workshop facilitator, author and editor Gwynn Scheltema, “Many writers dismiss the supermarket tabloids as inferior writing not worthy of attention. But tabloids rake in millions in money and circulations.” In this mini-workshop, let Gwynn Scheltema show you what a mainstream journalist or magazine article writer can learn from tabloids.

As an alternative, WCDR members attending the breakfast may choose to pay $10 extra to attend a 15-minute, one-on-one blue-pencil session with a published professional or editor after the meeting.
