The next Writers’ Community of Durham Region (WCDR) breakfast meeting will feature an exciting Canadian multi-talented artist as guest speaker. Dave Bidini was a finalist for this year’s CBC’s Canada Reads competition for his book On A Cold Road.

Based on his diary, the book depicts his colourful adventures while touring in 1996 with his band the Rheostatics as headliners for The Tragically Hip. A self-admitted sports nut, he went on to write books and screenplays on hockey and baseball.

Join us on Saturday, April 14th, 2012 for the opportunity to learn more about Dave’s writing and experiences.

Pre-registration is required. Deadline for registering is 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11th, 2012.

At the monthly WCDR breakfast meetings, experienced and aspiring writers gather, learn and connect over a gourmet breakfast at the Ajax Convention Centre. The April 14 meeting will run from 8:30a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Registration fees are $20.00 for members who pre-pay, or $25.00 at the door.

The non-member rate is $25.00 and must be pre-paid.

Pre-registration is required. Ask how you can save by becoming a member! Register online at www.wcdr.org, by phone at 905-686-0211 or by email at breakfast@wcdr.org, no later than 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11th. Anyone who registers by phone or email must indicate their breakfast menu option or will receive the Chef's Special.

After the meeting, for an extra fee of $10 per person, breakfast attendees can take part in a mini workshop titled “Twitter: Where the Writing World Flocks” facilitated by Heather O’Connor.

Twitter is where writers and readers, editors, publishers and agents mix and mingle. According to Cynthia Good of the Humber School for Writers, participating in this online network is an important part of a writer’s platform. In one short hour, you’ll learn the basics and receive detailed handouts that will take you step-by-step through the process, from start to finish.

You’ll leave with the tools you need to harness this powerful writers’ network. As an alternative, WCDR members attending the breakfast may choose to pay $10 extra to attend a 15-minute, one-on-one blue-pencil session with a published professional or editor after the meeting. Pre-registration for the mini-workshop and blue-pencil session is required.

Visit the WCDR website for more information.
