On Saturday, September 10, 2011, The Writers’ Community of Durham Region (WCDR) is thrilled to kick off the fall season with a breakfast meeting featuring one of Canada’s most acclaimed journalists and non-fiction writers. Ian Brown, author of The Boy in the Moon: A Father’s Search for his Disabled Son will be our guest speaker. The heart wrenching memoir of the daily physical and emotional struggles faced by the author as parent of a disabled child won the Trillium Award, the B.C. National Award for Canadian Non-Fiction and the Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction. The breakfast event promises to be an exceptional learning opportunity as Ian Brown will share his advice and experience on building a career in non-fiction writing.

At the WCDR monthly breakfast meetings, experienced and aspiring writers gather, learn and connect. The September meeting will run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Registration fees include a hearty breakfast. Fees are $20.00 for members who pre-pay, or $25.00 at the door. The non-member rate is $25.00 and MUST be pre-paid. Tickets for the breakfast are not available at the door.

Pre-registration is required – deadline for registering is 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept 7th.

After the meeting, for an extra fee of $10 per person, breakfast attendees can take part in a writing workshop with Ingrid Ruthig.
