Literary agent and author John M Cusick (Girl Parts, Candlewick) has posted on his blog “Ten Surefire Ways to Turn Off a Prospective Agent.” A handy list that will make you laugh — or cringe, if you find you’ve approached an agent with one of the listed turn offs. (Our favourite item on the list: "Opening your query with rhetorical questions. 'Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a flying hippo?' Nope.") Cusick writes, “If you’re already guilty of one or (god help you) all of these, don’t panic; there’s always time to change your ways.”
