Brick Books Celebrates 35 Years of Poetry Publishing with New Podcast Channel

Brick Books has been publishing some of Canada's best poetry for the past 35 years. In celebration of this achievement and to make the work of their fine poets available to a wider audience, Kitty Lewis and her team have joined forces with Julie Wilson of Book Madam & Associates to create the "largest publisher-focused poetry performance archive in Canada and abroad."

With over 160 podcasts available, poetry fans can hear readings from writers such as A. F. Moritz, Jennifer Still, Randall Maggs, Pain Not Bread, Kim Maltman, Brian Henderson, Maureen Hynes, Nico Rogers, Barry Dempster, John Reibetanz, Janice Kulyk Keefer, Karen Enns, Antony Di Nardo, Lorri Neilsen Glenn, Maureen Harris, Heather Cadsby, John Barton, Steve McOrmond, Chris Hutchinson, Jan Conn, Meira Cook, Carla Hartsfield, Karen Connelly, Diana Fitzgerald Bryden and Dennis Lee. Currently in the works are recordings of Karen Solie, David Seymour, Helen Humphreys, Margaret Avison and many more.

"Brick's poetry podcast archive gives a home, paradoxically, on the non-local, even anti-local surface of the Web, to a community of poetry," says Griffin Poetry Prize winner A.F. Moritz. "It makes a constellation out of the star-in-the-night quality of the brief eternal passion of the poem."

The podcasts are available through the web host Audioboo.fm, recently used as a platform for uploading public reports from Bahrain. In addition its mobile-friendly nature, Audioboo also allows users to easily embed a podcast onto their own blog or website.

Throughout National Poetry Month, Open Book intends to do just that! Check back with us for weekly selections from Brick Books' performance archive.
