Indie Writers Death Match

By Nathaniel G. Moore

Remember how good Rocky IV was? Well finally there's a writing contest that is equally dramatic and well put together. Yes, it's time to start saying your prayers, training and eating your vitamins whilst penning your fictional bloodbath. Broken Pencil's Indie Writers' Deathmatch is back. There are rumours that the champion this year will get a nice hunk pin-up photospread in the Spring 2011 issue, plus a haircut from Blood and Bandages on College Street. A haircut! What other magazine would offer you that? And there are even more amazing books being added to the grand prize pot as we speak.

Once again Broken Pencil judges are looking for fiction ranging between 1500 to 3000 words that will melt faces and kick up a stir in the online arena in early 2011. The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2010. The grand prize includes the aforementioned publication in the Spring 2011 issue of Broken Pencil, $300 CDN, plus awesome book prizes.

How does it work? Send in your story and $20 entry fee (includes a year subscription to BP) via our online submission form and wait until the top eight stories are announced in late January. Then, the madness begins! Thousands of rabid literary fans will crawl all over the website posting comments and voting for or against your brilliant story. Plus, special guest enforcers and commentators will show up throughout the contest to help maintain law and order.

And don't forget to follow Broken Pencil on Twitter for constant updates.
