Today, Canada Writes announced the finalists for the 2012 CBC Poetry Prize.
Five English and five French poems were selected out of over 2,300 entries from across Canada.

STEPHANIE BOLSTER (Montreal, QC) for "Long Exposure." The post-Hurricane Katrina photographs of Robert Polidori inspire thoughts of what's lost and what's left behind.
SADIQA DE MEIJER (Kingston, ON) for "Great Aunt Unmarried. Encounters with an elderly relative evoke moments of the foreign and the familiar.
EMILY MCGIFFIN (Smithers, BC) for "Stikine Country." The northern BC wilderness presents its own rules of power, beauty and belonging.
CATHERINE GREENWOOD (Victoria, BC) for "The Texada Queen." A father-daughter relationship is seen through the lens of a lifelong profession.
MARION QUEDNAU (Mission, BC) for "Yesterday, I Looked Inside." A casual glance leads to a tragic discovery and a question of grace.
The jury (JULIE BRUCK, PATRICK LANE and DENNIS LEE) will select a grand prize winner, which will be announced on Tuesday, September 25.
For the next five days (Sept. 17 to 21), one shortlisted poem will be published on the Canada Writes website, starting today with Stephanie Bolster's "Long Exposure." Once they are all up, the public will be invited to share comments and ideas on the poems from September 21 to 24.
