The Canadian Children’s Book Centre is excited to announce the winners of the Book Week 2011 Writing Contest for kids and Teens. The contest is a much-anticipated part of TD Canadian Children's Book Week — the largest celebration of Canadian books for young people in Canada.
This year Book Week celebrates global citizenship. The theme Changing the World, One Child at a Time focuses on stories that highlight children and teens who are doing things to make the world a better place in their community, country, or abroad.
Nine Canadian children’s authors donated their time and expertise to judge over 500 submissions from writers in grades four to twelve. The judges for the Book Week 2011 Writing Contest are: Sheryl McFarlane, Sharon Jennings, Jessica Scott Kerrin, Sylvia Gunnery, Richard Scrimger, David Poulsen, Sylvia McNicoll, Lori Weber and Arthur Slade.
The winner from each grade will receive a $250 gift certificate for the bookstore of his or her choice.

- Grade 8: Keira Purdon of Thunder Bay, Ontario for This is My Voice; Listen
- Grade 9: Emily Wang of Calgary, Alberta for Heroes
- Grade 10: Amanjot Minhas of Abbotsford, British Columbia for Hide and Seek
- Grade 11: Kate Irwin of West Kelowna, British Columbia for The Emerald Eyes
- Grade 12: Jamie Byrne of St. Brendan’s, Newfoundland for Euphoria
