Matthew’s style is fun and retro, reminiscent of 1930s graphic design and cartoons such as Tintin, Casper and Little Lulu. He has drawn several books of comics, including his first book, Ojingogo (Drawn & Quarterly, 2008), which was nominated for two Eisner awards and won a Doug Wright award for Canadian Cartooning. He also illustrated the children’s book My Name is Elizabeth! (Kids Can Press, 2011), written by Annika Dunklee, which was described in The New York Times as “close to perfect.” He is almost finished another book called Jinchalo (Drawn & Quarterly, 2012). His comics have also won the Quill & Quire Book of the Year and the Expozine Award for Best Comic. Matthew is one of the founding editors of Drawn! The Illustration Weblog. He currently lives in Montreal where he teaches a New Media class at Concordia University.
