Two titles from Dundurn Press have recently been shortlisted for prestigious literary awards.

So Few on Earth by Josie Penny has been shortlisted for the Democracy 250 Atlantic Book Award for Historical Writing, which "recognizes an author (or authors) who excels at illuminating the Atlantic region's vibrant history and acknowledges the work of the publisher who makes the book available." The winners of the 2011 Atlantic Book Awards will be announced at a special gala evening on May 19, 2011 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

The 2011 Atlantic Book Awards and Festival runs May 12–19 with free literary events taking place in all four Atlantic provinces. Festival details will be available at www.atlanticbookawards.ca in the coming weeks.

Into the Mist by Anne Renaud has also been shortlisted for the 2011 Information Book Award as part of the Vancouver Children’s Literature Roundtable (in the ages 9-12 category). The award is given to a book that "arouses interest, stimulates curiosity, captures the imagination, and fosters concern for the world around us." The winning book will be announced in November 2011, in time for Canadian Children’s Book Week.

The Vancouver Children’s Literature Roundtable "is an organization committed to getting people together for a variety of events to share good children’s books and to meet the creators of these books—writers, illustrators, editors, publishers."

Congratulations to Dundurn authors Josie Penny and Anne Renaud! Open Book wishes you all the best.
