As part of our mapping of literary Ontario, we're highlighting five things about literary life in communities throughout the province. What do our cities, towns and villages have to offer writers, readers and the curious? Follow Five Things Literary to find out.

Today's feature on literary life in Petawawa was contributed by Lynn Tweedie of the Petawawa Public Library.

1. The Algonquin Book Club meets on the first Thursday evening of every month in the Rotary Room at the Petawawa Public Library.

2. Storytime for Toddlers at the Petawawa Public Library takes place the last Monday morning of each month for 2 to 3 year olds and their parents or caregivers.

3. The Petawawa Public Library also hosts Storytime for 3 to 6 Year Olds. Sessions run twice a week with stories, songs and crafts for preschoolers throughout the school year. (Visit our calendar for details).

4. The Page-Eaters Reading Club is a reading program for kids from Kindergarten to Grade 9. They read from booklists created by the Children’s Librarian and then vote on their favourites at the wrap-up party!

5. Local author Patricia Elford has compiled and edited Grandmothers’ Necklace, an anthology of various styles of prose and poetry. Proceeds from the sale of the book support the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Other contributors from Petawawa and the surrounding area include Eileen Barber, Chantal Bigras, Heather Campbell, Cheryl Coates, Dianne Collier, Gillian Federico, Erma Johnson, Charlotte McWilliam, Jean Ostrom, Jacinthe Payant and Marcia Perryman.

Lynn Tweedie works at the Petawawa Public Library where her duties include cataloguing and website maintenance. She also takes care of the library’s online presence on Facebook, Twitter and the Petawawa Public Library Blog. She is currently working on her Library and Information Technician Diploma through distance education at Mohawk College.
