Tonight, the 75th Governor General's Literary Awards will take place at 6pm in Ottawa at Rideau Hall. The Governor General's Literary Awards are the oldest awards in Canada for both English- and French-language literature. The prestigious awards are administered by the Canada Council for the Arts. A winner in both languages is selected from the categories of fiction, poetry, drama, non-fiction, children's literature (text and illustration) and translation.

Both Open Book: Ontario and Open Book: Toronto have been following the 2011 Governor General's Awards, so here is a round-up of all the news items and features about the Awards and the winners from both sites.

Here is a list of all the winners, each of whom will receive $25,000 and a specially-bound copy of the winning book. Congratulations to all!

It was reported in the Quill & Quire that author Michael Ondaatje asked that his latest novel The Cat's Table be omitted from consideration for this year's awards. Find out why here.
